About us

In 1835-1836, with donations, a State Male High School was built on the site of a cell school (a primary school during the Ottoman rule). In the past, high schools were divided into male (in which only boys studied) and female (only for girls). The students had to wear uniforms, and when they met a teacher, they stood up, took off their hats and greeted politely. Many of the teachers in the Male High School studied at institutes of Paris, Petersburg, Ghent, Vienna, Leipzig and Sofia.

On September 1, 1878, the school was titled Sliven High School. In 1881, it won public recognition and was called Regional High School.

The first building of the school

The present building of Hotel and Tourism High School "Akademician Nedelcho Nedelchev" was part of this Regional High School. In 1963, after long discussions with the town administration, a Professional Catering School was established in the building. It met the needs of executive and management personnel for the regions of Sliven, Yambol and Stara Zagora. In 1963, the Catering School opened its doors for its first four classes. In 1975, the building was declared a cultural monument. In 1992, the school was named after the outstanding Bulgarian academician Nedelcho Nedelchev. In 2003 it received the status of a Vocational High School. Since November 2009, the school has a completely renovated building with modern and professional equipment. This provides an opportunity for educating and training professionals in tourism business.
